Phase 2 · Interaction Design Scenarios

Scenario 1

A football coach, George, is finalizing the plays for this weeks game against the team’s rival school. He opens the iCoach app and clicks on the playbook. He opens up a few plays that he thinks will be good for the next week, and clicks armband to send them to his team. From the menu that pops up he selects the players he wants to share the play with and clicks send. After he has sent out his initial plays the coach decides to watch some game film from their opponents game last week. He notices a hole in their defense that he had not seen before, so he copies the video link and opens up the playbook app. He opens the playbook, flipping through the book he sees that one of the plays he has not sent out would perfectly take advantage of the opening. He clicks the video icon and pastes the link to the video along with a short description and sends it to his players. Then he uses send to arm band again and sends the play.

This scenario shows how the coach can interact with the app, and shows a possible scenario where he is preparing for a game. It illustrates the features of video sharing, and the idea of navigating using the labels. It also gives an overview of the main program features, including the playbook, armband, and video sharing.

Scenario 2

John, a football player, is reviewing new plays after practice for the upcoming game this weekend. He takes out his iPhone and opens iPlaybook. A welcome screen that directs him in a few functions of the app immediately greets him. He clicks on the playbook and the app opens up his copy of the coach’s playbook, showing only the plays that the coach has sent to his armband. He sees that the coach has sent him some revised plays to memorize for the upcoming game against their rival school, and can’t wait to see what the coach has come up with. He flips through the new plays attempting to memorize them as quickly as possible before heading home. When he gets home John realizes that he doesn’t really remember a few of the plays that he hastily looked over, so he opens the app again and goes to the playbook. He scrolls though the index to find the exact play he is looking for and opens it up again. Before going to bed John decides to watch some of the videos his coach has shared with him, so he opens the app again, navigates to the new play, and clicks video. He watches a few of the videos and goes to sleep.

This scenario illustrates how the player will interact with the app. It shows the use of the navigation, as well as the index navigation. It also shows the flip navigation, and the way players can use the embedded videos. This also shows how the app is limited by the use of preconceived metaphors. Requiring the user to navigate several levels to get where they are going in order to keep with the playbook analogy.
